I finally had a weekend where I wasn't freezing and didn't have to be somewhere for school, and boy did I take advantage of that!
I am lucky enough to be in a part of Wisconsin that has a lot of beautiful lakes. Saturday was also the first day of fishing season. Even though I haven't gone fishing in the last 5 years, I bought myself a license and off I went.
I am lucky that I found a friend while playing indoor soccer this past season that loves the outdoors as much as me if not more, who also invites me on adventures. So, despite getting home late after chaperoning prom and post prom, I found myself heading over to her house where we purchased a kayak for her hubby and packed up the "john boat" (another Wisconsin term? I have not heard of this before).
We were lucky, even though we did not get on the water until 4, the sun was still shining and warm and we were the only people on the lake. We were also lucky that her two year old did not go tumbling over the side, despite her having no fear of walking around the boat. We traveled up the marshy creek and were able to see muskrats swimming and a goose protecting her nest. Apparently, cattail is edible and it almost won WWII. It tastes like cucumber. I cleaned mine off, but the grubs that come with the stalk are edible too.
We were blessed with a beautiful sunset and fish that were biting towards the end. I even caught two blue gill!

Today I was lucky to work in a beautiful coffee shop with another teacher friend and got a lot of paperwork done while sipping on a delicious praline white mocha. By the time I was finished with the paperwork, I was lucky that the temperature had risen for the day and I went on a walk in the Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy .
